It is the beginning of November and that means that 'Sinterklaas' will arrive this month. Honestly Sinterklaas is like Santa Claus but Dutch, he comes by boat from Spain and brings candy and toys for the kids. His birthday is 5 December which is called 'present night' he also has some helpers which are called Black Pete. Those ones climb on top of the roofs and get through the chimney (that is why they are black, because of the soot from the chimney and put gifts into the shoes of the kids. A lovely child feast and a very much Dutch tradition. Even though I am already 25 and not believing in it for a long time the fairy tale is still so nice.
And during this time there are also some special treats available in store and my number one guilty pleasure are the chocolate 'kruidnootjes' which are small gingerbread nuts. I could eat a whole bag of them back in the days, but since I know the ingredients I stopped doing that. So I tried a lot and finally I managed to be able to make these vegan chocolate gingerbread nuts. You should definitely try them.
