It is almost Christmas, the year went by like crazy (again) and the month of nice food, a lot of food and a lot of time with family and friends is here again. I honestly have to confess that I am not that much of a Christmas person. I like Christmas music and also love to spend hours in Christmas stores looking at those houses and trains haha. But Christmas itself is not really my thing. The thing that I don't really like about is, is that it is all very mandatory, you don't have the freedom to schedule these days the way you want to. You are expected at your own family and your family in law. Of course we will be eating nice and it is fun, but I would also love to have Christmas just with the two of us in our own home with nice food and our sweatpants instead of being dressed properly and going to family. But I also think it is just two days and Christmas evening is our own Christmas.
If you follow me a bit longer, you have probably read that we haven't been eating meat in a while (with exception of a 'kroket' or when we eat elsewhere). Not because we specifically wanted to eat vegetarian, but it started as an experiment. We wanted to know the effect on our body if we didn't eat meat for a month. That turned out more positive than expected and we decided to not eat any meat anymore, our meat usually came from the supermarket. With Christmas we did want to eat meat and we went looking for organic lamb rack. We found it at biologischnatuurvlees.nl (no spon).
The lambs and cows live free in a natural park, they do not get any hormons or antibiotics and they are not fed additionally. They just eat grass and plants. Which is way better than the steak from the supermarket. And because there a minimal order amount I also ordered beef stew. So tonight I will be making stew for the first time. I am so excited to see how this works out. Our starter at Christmas evening will be vegetarian, a filled chestnut mushroom with nuts and bell pepper. I am also excited about that one.
