My very first blog post is finally there

My very first blog post is finally there! In this first post I would like to introduce myself, so you know who I am. Besides that I also want to share with you why I started this food blog and what you can expect of it.
My name is Michelle, I am 24 years old and I currently work in a full time job as a training coordinator for a big company. In this blog I want to tell you a bit more about my passion for healthy food and a healthy lifestyle. If you have questions or remarks, just leave your response or send me an email.
Let me start at the beginning. I always liked to bake. I already helped my mum baking cookies when I was a little kid, I baked cakes for my classmates when it was my birthday and everyday at my birthday I wanted to try a new recipe. I always was the sweet kind of type. When I went out for dinner I always took the most sweet desserts and I just loved cake.
In the weekend I had breakfast with pink glace cookies and I sometimes ate 2 times chips on one day. I did not really gain wait and also did not work out, but I could do this for a while. Until I turned 17/18 and started to get a little bigger belly. I was not satisfied with the 'belly' and tried to live more healthy. During the week that turned out quite good, but in the weekends I started eating unhealthy again. All by all I lost 5 kilos in weight and I was satisfied with the result. I still liked to snack, but also did not workout, so I had to eat healthy during the week to keep this going.
In 2013 I went to the gym once a week with my mum and sister, but I got bored of that quite soon. I found most of the machines boring and it was just so dirty and soggy in that gym. There was one machine that I did like though, the treadmill. I also thought of starting running. I used to do that, but that was once in a (half) year. I put on my old Nikes and installed an app on my phone to start running with. The big advantage of the app is that you can slowly intensify your training with interval training. When I used to be running I wanted to last as long as possible and when I didn't manage to do so I quit for 6 months again. So this app was perfect, I wouldn't be dead at the end and slowly got the chance to do more every week. Besides that running outside was a much better feeling than in that soggy gym. My mum saw ho much I liked and that I got more fit so she started running with me. At some point we even ran three times a week.
It was really nice doing this. Until my mother got injured. I did walk alone, but because I was busy at work I didn't walk as much as I wanted to. By walking with music I did walk better and could last longer.
It is already at the end of 2014 when I get to know my current boyfriend (Jens). We had a good connection from the start and it felt very good already. Jens was busy with healthy food and also looked at the ingredients of packages, something I had never done before myself. Besides that he drank a lot of water and ate fruit and vegetables. I saw that and slowly became more aware of my own food- and lifestyle.
In that same period my mum also started a more healthy lifestyle. I read about how bad refined sugars are for you and the fact they don't give you any energy, while everybody says it does. I started drinking more water, eating more healthy and eating less refined sugars. Because I don't always get my vitamins I started making smoothies. Every night I make a smoothie to take with me to work to get my vitamins in. I also started making nice wraps and healthy lunches to take with me to work. I soon felt a lot more fit, less tired and had a lot more energy. I wanted to continue doing this.
At work it got a bit more busy and that made it hard to plan the running. Besides that I still walked once a week and ate healthy. but I still did not feel 100% fit. I still felt having that 'little belly' so Jens motivated me do more workouts. By doing abdominal exercises that small layer of fat will disappear and the muscles will appear. That sounded perfect to me, although it was easier said than done. I downloaded another app and went on working with those exercises every single evening. This took me approximately 10-15 minutes and the exercises varied from squats to crunches and from jumping jacks to planking. In the beginning I had a lot of muscle pain, but it became easier and easier to finish all the exercises. After some time I knew the exercises very well and also knew what worked for me. At that moment I started making my own workout schedule based on the information I gathered.
Jens and I live together now since June 2016 and that means something for our free time of course. Definitely now we have a puppy dog since November. Based on this busy combination I am doing less workouts during the week, but I did intensify the workouts. This means that I am doing 3 workouts of 20 minutes per week and also run once a week.
Besides the fact that I feel better than ever, physically, I am also working on my mental health development. This is definitely a new challenge for me. Meditating and Mindfullness sound a bit woolly to a down-to-earth-girl like me. Do I really need to do this? Will this really make me a better person? Isn't that to woolly for me?
I set aside all my doubts and looked for a Guided Meditation video on Youtube. I soon found somebody with a very nice voice to listen to and honestly I liked meditating. I also noticed a difference in my daily life, I was let by my emotions much less and was less worried about unimportant issues. So this also had a very positive impact on my feelings. This combination of training my body and mind gave me a lot of rest and a different view of life as well.
So actually I found my healthy lifestyle flow. And that is also why I want to recommend everybody to live a more healthy life and make more conscious decisions. That is also one of the reasons that I started my food blog Organic Happiness. At first I am so excited that I made that switch and feel much more fit, healthy and energized and I wish for everybody to feel this way. Besides that I always had a passion for nice food and baking. The combination of these 2 factors have led to my food blog. I am following my passion of healthy, tasty food and want to share it with you. I honestly hope you will enjoy the recipes I will be making and sharing. In this blog I will share different recipes, but also general information about ingredients that I like to work with.
