"I used a spoon to put the topping on the cake and used the curved site of the spoon to divide the topping."
(King's) Cake a cake with a lovely orange topping, which is healthy as well. That is a nice treat on King's Day.
It is 27 April which means King's Day in the Netherlands. It is the birthday of the King and we celebrate it with different parties and festivals in the country. The King and his family will visit two cities that day where they will see something about the culture of that place with music, games and other fun stuff.
I honestly have to admit it won't be a very exciting day for me today. I have the day off and Jens is working so it probably will turn out to be a relaxing day with Leyla. I might have a look at the street market, but further more it will be relaxed.
Once I was about 17 I went to Amsterdam with a friend, on, which was then, Queens Day. It was super warm and there was a party, organised by a radio station and a lot of artists came. The was the only time I went to a party or festival on Queens/King's Day. I am not that much of a party animal any, I prefer to have a drink and a chat somewhere instead of being in a place with music that is way too loud and way too many people. Last years I regularly went to Antwerp with my parents and sister on King's Day. All stores Are opened there and they don't celebrate our Kings Day so it is just a regular day there and it is not that busy, which is much different than when you would go in the weekends for example.
I do like Kings Day though, everybody is happy and usually the weather is very good as well. When I still lived with my parents I would wake up early and went with my mum to the store to buy orange 'tompouce'. Which is a typical Dutch pastry with two layers of puff pastry, the filling is a sweet yellow pastry cream and the icing is smooth and usually pink, but on King's Day it is orange. My dad and I ate them and we would watch the tour of the King and his family on television all day. I don't enjoy that as much as I used to anymore, I honestly don't want to sacrifice a whole day to that. But maybe if I will be working on my blog this afternoon I will turn the television on at the background to get me into that feeling.
Like I said orange tompouces really complete King's Day, but I have to say this healthy cake is also worth a try. The flavor is super good and it is a super healthy cake as well. And I don't just say that because I thought of it and made it. Because I liked this one so much I took a part of it to my job. And my colleagues also loved it very much. So if you don't have any plans for today I would say get into the kitchen and bake this lovely cake!
